Jordan Millers

7/31/10
Jordan Millers   4    Shoreview Seafoam Hawks  0
The Jordan Millers recorded their 4th shutout of the season as Troy Mahoney was masterful in a 4-0 victory over Shoreview.  That victory runs the team's record to 9-4 as they head into the last week of the regular season.

After two scoreless innings, the Millers used four hits in the 3rd inning to plate 3 runs.  With two outs, Mike Pearson got his second of three hits on the night.  This one was a booming double to the left field gap, scoring Greg Pasdernik.  Pete Buesgens followed with a single to left, scoring Pearson and Brian Martin doubled of the left field fence, scoring Buesgens.

In the 4th, the Millers added an insurance run.  Dan Larson doubled, advanced to 3rd on a Mahoney single and scored on a wild pick-off throw. For the season, Larson has a batting average of .571 and an astronomical on-base percentage of .739.

Mahoney was sharp on the mound, allowing only five hits, all singles, over seven innings.  He struck out five and walked one.

Next up for the Millers is a trip to Northfield on Thursday night, August 5th for a 7:30pm tilt.  They wrap-up the regular season at home on Sunday, August 8th with a 2 pm game vs. the Minneapolis Bombers.

Jordan Millers   11    Brooklyn Park Warriors    1
Jordan rapped out 13 hits and Greg Pasdernik threw a one-hitter as the Millers improved their record to 8-4 with an 11-1 victory over the Brooklyn Park Warriors.  The game was shortened due to the 10-run rule.

Following a quick top of the first, the Millers got out of the gates early again.  Mike Pearson led off the game with a double to left, stole third base, and scored on a long sacrifice fly by Brian Martin.  For the season, the Millers have scored 16 1st inning runs in twelve games.  After tacking on two more in the bottom of the 2nd, the flood gates opened in the 3rd as the Millers sent 13 men to the plate, scoring 8 runs.  In the inning, Dan Larson had two hits driving in two runs and Pete Buesgens narrowly missed a grand slam with a bases clearing double off the left field fence.  Brian Schroder continued his hot season at the plate, going 2-2 with a walk, stolen base, RBI and a run scored.  Troy Mahoney and Larry Gessler also added two hits.

Pasdernik had more than enough runs to work with for the night, as he retired Warrior after Warrior.  He took a no-hitter into the 5th but a sinking line drive to right field fell in, breaking up the bid.  For the game, Pasdernik struck out 5 and walked just one.

Next game:  July 31, 6pm at Jordan vs. Shoreview Seafoam Hawks.

Jordan Millers   6    Faribault Flames   0
The Millers ran their season record to 5 wins and 3 losses with a 7-0 victory over Flames at Bell Field in Faribault.  Greg Pasdernik threw four scoreless innings to record the win.  Sam Firpo picked up the save by hurling three scoreless frames.

Jordan quickly put the Shakopee no-hitter behind them as leadoff hitter Mike Pearson started the game with a double.  Pete Buesgens grounded a ball through the 3rd baseman's legs and Bryon Schroeder walked to load the bases.  A Larry Gessler grounder was misplayed at home and Pearson scored to give the Millers a 1-0 lead.  Brian Buesgens lashed a double to gap in left-center and the Millers led 3-0.  Dan Larson followed that with a single, scoring Gessler and Chris Rook closed out the scoring with a base hit to center field, scoring Brian Buesgens.  That is all the run support Pasdernik would need as he cruised through the Faribault line-up, striking out 7 in four innings.  The Millers other run came in the six inning.  Rook led off with a double, advanced to 3rd on a throwing error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pearson.

Next the Millers go on the road Friday night to take on the St. Louis Park Cardinals.  Last year, the Millers defeated the Cardinals 4-2 in the regular season.  However, St. Louis Park won the Red Division of the River Valley League and finished 2nd in the Class A State Tournament.  Game time is 8:30pm.

Shakopee Chiefs 10   Jordan Millers   0
Shakopee showed why they are a favorite for the Class AA State Championship this year as they ran their record to 7-0 with a 10-0 drubbing of the Millers.  Newcomer Craig Baumann spun a no-hitter against the Millers, zipping fastballs past the Jordan hitters with ease.  For the game, Baumann struck out 13 in this shortened game.  For the season, the Chiefs have outscored their opponents by a 85-19 margin, have thrown 2 no-hitters and two one-hit games.

Jordan Millers 3   Jordan Alers   0
The Jordan Millers (4-1) continued their dominance over the Jordan Alers, winning 3-0 on Jordan Baseball Day.  That win marked the 7th in a row for the Millers in this crosstown rivalry and the 11th in the past 12 games over the Alers.  Larry Gessler pitched a 2 hit shutout for the Millers, improving his record to 2-0 on the season.  The Millers pitching staff has only allowed one earned run in the last 20 innings.

The Millers got to Alers starting pitcher Joel Reed in the 2nd inning.  Dan Larson drew a one-out walk and immediately stole 2nd.  He advanced to 3rd on a base hit to left by Gessler.  A fielder's choice by Sam Firpo plated Larson and the Millers led 1-0.  It would stay that way until the 5th when the Millers would add two more runs.  Chris Rook led off the inning with a walk and stole 2nd base.  A dropped fly ball in right field off the bat of Mike Pearson scored Rook.  Following a walk to Brian Buesgens, Bryon Schroeder hit a roller to 3rd base that was bobbled, allowing Pearson to score.  That was plenty of offensive support for Gessler, who only allowed 3 Alers to reach base all day.  On the mound for the Alers, Reed was also tough, allowing only 3 hits to a Millers team that had a team batting average of .313 coming into the game.  He added three strikeouts but walked five, two of which later scored.

The Millers are at home on Thursday night (July 1) for a tilt against the Bloomington Eagles.  The Eagles are in first place in the North Division of the River Valley League with a 4-2 record.  The Millers 4-1 record puts them in 2nd place of the Central Division.  Game time is 8pm.

Jordan Millers 10   Webster Wildcats   0
After having their first two home games rained out, the Jordan Millers finally had their "home opener" versus the Webster Wildcats.  The Millers were not very hospitable, downing the Wildcats 10-0.  The game ended after 5 innings due to the 10-run rule.  Veteran John Noonan got the nod on the mound and was sharp, allowing only 1 hit, a first inning double.  He struck out eight and only allowed 4 Wildcats to reach base.

Offensively, the Millers got on the board early.  Leadoff hitter Mike Pearson walked, stole 2nd and 3rd and then scored on a base hit to left field by Pete Buesgens.  In the second inning, the Millers sent 10 to the plate, scoring 5 times.  Miller rookies Dan Larson and Sam Firpo each drove in a run with base hits.  In the 3rd, the Millers added 2 more runs as Larson and Firpo scored on a triple by Buesgens.  Single runs in the 4th and 5th brought this game to an end.  For the game, Pete Buesgens had 3 hits and 5 runs batted in.  Dan Larson added 2 hits and Mike Pearson scored 3 runs and stole 2 bases.

Jordan Millers 8   Belle Plaine Gray Tigers 4
The Millers scored early and often against the Grey Tigers of Belle Plaine en route to an 8-4 victory in Tiger Town.  Larry Gessler pitched the complete game, allowing 7 hits while striking out 9.  Mike Pearson led off the game with a single and promptly scored on a double by Pete Buesgens.  Brian Buesgens, Brian Schroeder and Chris Rook followed that up with hits and the Millers were off and running.  In the second inning, the Millers loaded the bases again and John Noonan ripped an double, plating all three.  That was it for the scoring by the Millers but that was plenty for Gessler, who cruised through the Belle Plaine line-up.

The Millers are now off until June 5th when they will host Minneapolis for a 7pm tilt at the Mini-Met.
