Shoreview SeaFoam Hawks
fell to 0-2 Sunday, losing 9-1 to Bloomington at McCullough Park.
The game wasn't
nearly as bad as it sounds. Bloomington got six hits, all singles;
Shoreview four hits, including two doubles for the run in the fifth.
But Shoreview was far too gracious a host. Bloomington benefited by
getting 14 walks and two hit batters; Shoreview got 0 walks and 0
hit batters. Not a good exchange. We tried a couple guys pitching
who haven't pitched. The first one walked two and hit one to load
the bases, then struck out two, before walking in two in the first,
and when he again walked the bases full in the second, I pulled
him. Our second pitcher was on the mound for the first time
since he was about 15(!) and he did really well, despite a fairly
steady dose of walks.
We were down only 3-0 after three, and 5-1 into the seventh, when I
put in a couple of defensive subs, and the two made three errors
that contributed to a 4-run Bloomington rally to blow the score
out.
