Jordan Millers 7   Union Hill Pitbulls 6
The Millers (9-5) won their second straight, defeating Union Hill 7-6.  Jordan opened the scoring in the bottom of the first.  Mike Pearson reached on an error by the 3rd baseman.  Brian Schroeder followed with a booming triple to right-center field.  Union Hill tied the game in the top of the second on a base hit, error, and a sacrifice fly.  However, the Millers plated 3 in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead.  Pete Buesgens led off with a single to left field.  He stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd when Brian Martin reached on a error.  Martin stole second and both scored on Chris Rook's base hit to left.  Rook later scored on a groundout.  Union Hill showed why they were the 4th best team in the state last year by rallying for 4 runs in the top of the third, taking a 5-4 lead.  The damage was done on three hits, a hit batter, a walk and an error by the Millers.

The Millers bounced right back into the lead in the 3rd, scoring three times.  A double by Martin plated John Noonan and Rook's 2nd hit of the night scored Buesgens and Martin.  Union Hill added a run in the 5th but could not plate the tying run.  On the mound, Troy Mahoney recorded his 3rd win of the season, allowing just 6 hits while striking out four.  He did allow 6 runs but only 2 were earned.

New Hope Bandits 5   Jordan Millers 2
The Millers traveled to New Hope and fell to the Bandits 5-2.  Although Jordan outhit New Hope 8-3, walks and defense decided this game.  New Hope drew 9 walks to the Millers 1 and two costly Millers errors led to three unearned runs.  New Hope opened the scoring in the first on three walks and a wild pitch.  The Millers tied it in the 3rd when Brian Martin's sacrifice fly plated Donnie Hartmann.  However, the tie was short-lived as the Bandits put two on the board with a hit, a walk, a hit batter and a Millers error.  The Millers scratched their way back to a one run game when Brian Schroeder singled in Larry Gessler.  However, that's as close as they would get.  Gessler (1-1) took the loss on the mound, going 4 innings.  He allowed just 2 hits but walked 6 and hit a batter.

The Millers' bats woke up on Sunday in Webster, as the pounded out 17 hits in a 7-0 victory over the Wildcats.  Miller pitcher Greg Pasdernik had a no hitter through 6 1/3 innings before surrendering a base hit to centerfield.  For the game, Pasdernik (2-1) earned the complete game shutout, surrendering just the one hit while striking out 12 and giving up 3 walks.

The Millers opened the scoring in the first.  John Noonan doubled to score Brian Martin and Noonan scored on an RBI single by Brian Schroeder.  In the 4th, Pete Buesgens got a one out base hit, stole 2nd and scored on Bill Piotrowski's base hit to center.  In the 5th, the Millers tacked on two more, this time with two outs.  Brian Buesgens picked up his 2nd hit of the game, advanced to 2nd when Schroeder was hit by a pitch.  Buesgens scored on a Troy Mahoney base hit to left and Schroeder scored when Pete Buesgens added his second hit of the afternoon.  Single runs in the sixth and seventh led to runs 6 and 7 for the Millers.

For the game, John Noonan again led the way with 3 hits, raising his batting average to .560 (14-25).  Brian Buesgens, Brian Schroeder, Pete Buesgens,  Troy Mahoney and Chris Rook each added 2 hits a piece.  The bottom part of the order (hitters 6-9) went 8-19 at the plate (.421), driving in 5 of the 7 runs.

Waconia Islanders 11    Jordan Millers 5
Two bad innings and too many walks spelled doom for the Millers as they lost their 2nd straight game.  Troy Mahoney (2-1) cruised through the first 3 innings, allowing no runs and just one hit.  The Millers opened the scoring as a Chris Rook double plated Brian Buesgens in the second.  However, the Islanders used three hits and three walks to plate 4 in the 4th and three hits and five walks to plate 6 in the 5th.  The Millers rallied for four in the bottom of the 7th but it was too little, too late.

Jordan Millers 4   St. Louis Park Cardinals 2
The Jordan Millers ran their record to 6-2 with a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Park Cardinals (4-4).  Larry Gessler (1-0) picked up the win, throwing 5 innings of one hit ball.  He struck out 4 and walked three.  Greg Pasdernik pitched the final two frames, allowing one earned run on 3 hits.

Offensively, the Millers did all the scoring they would need in the second inning.  Troy Mahoney led off the inning with a base hit up the middle.  That was followed by an infield single by Larry Gessler.  Chris Rook walked to load the bases and Bill Piotroski singled sharply to right, plating Mahoney and pinch runner Pat Stadler.  A walk by Brian Buesgens re-loaded the bases with no outs.  Back to back fielders choices by Mike Pearson and Pete Buesgens scored the other two runs in the inning.  A troubling spot for the Miller offense was leaving 6 runners in scoring position.  However, the pitching kept the Cardinal bats at bay and the victory put the Millers into first place in the Red Division of the River Valley League, a half game ahead of the Veseli Vulcans (6-3).

The Millers will enjoy the 4th of July holiday before welcoming the St. Peter Saints to town on July 8th.  The Saints were the 2008 Class AA runner-ups and defeated the Millers twice last year by scores of 6-2 and 4-2.  Game time is 7:30pm.

Jordan Millers 10   Jordan Alers 0
“Walks Will Haunt” is an old baseball adage.  The Jordan Alers proved it to be true by walking 13 Millers batters.  Add in a hit batter and 7 hits and the Millers had themselves a 10-0 victory over the Alers on Baseball Day.  Troy Mahoney ran his record to 2-0, throwing the 2 hit shutout.  He struck out five while walking only two.

After a scoreless first, the Millers put 3 on the board in the second.  Brian Schroeder walked to lead off the inning, stole 2nd and 3rd, and scored on a wild pitch.  Two walks, a hit batter and a two-run single by Mike Pearson led to the other runs.  In the 3rd inning, the Millers added two more runs on a hit and two walks.  The 5-0 lead was stretched to 8-0 with three more in the 3rd inning.  After two were out, Pearson walked, advanced to 2nd on a balk and scored on a Pete Buesgens single.  Brian Martin walked and John Noonan collected his 2nd hit.  Buesgens and Martin scored on a Brian Buesgens base hit.  In the bottom of the 5th, the Millers ended the game by the 10-run rule.      Four walks and a Martin base hit up the middle plated the final two runs.

Offensively, John Noonan’s two hits led the way.  Noonan’s average for the year is a robust .692 on the season.
