Scott
was our dear teammate and catcher for 16+ seasons and
his most treasured moment in Over-35 baseball was
driving in the winning run in our state
championship 1-0 victory over the St. Paul Saints
in 1987. Scott should have been an Eden Prairie
cop, he caught so many guys trying to steal.
“I’m not sure I am much of a hitter – you
want to DH for me?” Scott asked in our very first
season in 1986. Oh boy: Scott ended up as one our
leading hitters ever, a career .368 average.
But
more important than baseball, Scott loved his family
first more than anything and that is the legacy he
leaves with all of us.
Scott
also loved his Gophers, where he played baseball for
Dick Siebert and where his father, "Snapper"
Stein served as the legendary trainer and member of
Bernie Bierman's championship football teams of the
1930's.
