Chuck
Kennedy of the Le Center Braves opened the game with a
single off Metro League starter, Bruce Carter. Jerry Peer
walked to set the stage for single by New Prague's Joe
Hoffman to drive in Kennedy giving the River Valley team a
1 - 0 lead
Metro
pitcher, Jerry Hershey of the host Loretto Sox singled to
open the bottom half of the third inning. Sam Rosenstein
of the Minneapolis Adrians and Steve Hahn of the St. Louis
Park Cardinals both reached on errors. Hershey and
Rosenstein scored on a hard single by Anoka's Jay Johnson
to give the Metro team the lead from which they were never
headed. Hahn scored in the same inning on a sacrifice fly
by his teammate, Cardinal First Baseman, Dan Webster to
give the Metro team a 3 - 1 lead which was all they would
need to win this game.
In
the 4th, New Hope Bandit, Merle Flaming drove home his
fellow Bandit, Mike Lehr who had earlier singled to
increase the lead to 4 - 1 and again in the 7th,
Flaming singled home Roberto Castruita of the Minneapolis
Bombers who had also singled to end the scoring for the
Metro team and establish the score at 5 - 1.
Dave
Johnson of the Eden Prairie Lion's Tap walked to start the
9th, but was erased by a fielder's choice on Le Center's
Tim Palmquist. Palmquist moved to third as Webster's Frank
Shima reached on an error and scored on a hit by St.
Peter's Jim Sullivan to make the score 5 - 2. River
Valley mounted a brief rally in the 10th as Kennedy led
off with a double and Bloomington Eagle Jerry Peer reached
on an error, but Loretto's Tim Doboszenski slammed the
door and held on for the "City Boys" as they
avenged last year's loss to the "Boys from South of
the River".
