Game Hi-Lites

Shakopee's Bob Britz got things going for the River Valley team in the bottom of the second with a double to left-center. Roger Kalina of the New Prague Robins bounced one off the center-field fence to drive in Britz and River Valley took a 1-0 lead. Waconia's Collin Bender followed with a single scoring Kalina and RV went ahead 2-0.

The Metro League quickly answered in the top of the 3rd as Dassel-Cokato third baseman, Mark Raisanen opened the inning with a double. Rich "Doc" Ellis, of the Loretto Sox moved him to third with a single and he later scored on a fielder's choice.

River Valley manufactured a run in the bottom of the sixth as Carlos Ubiera of the Eden Prairie Lion's Tap team reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on a fielder's choice and scored on Bobby Britz's single to give the RV team a brief 3-1 lead.

Once again, the Metro League was not to be denied as they came back in the top of the seventh to score 2 runs for a 3-3 tie. The ageless John Gilbert of the Shoreview Hawks, a veteran of 20 + seasons in the senior league reached on an error, moved to second when Tony Krick of the Eden Prairie Padres drew a walk and scored on Loretto's Paul Lucktenbergs single. Loretto's Wayne Zarembinski then drove home Krick with the tying run.

In the top of the 10th, Lucktenberg reached on an error. Zarembinski's hit was bobbled by the RV team and Kevin Ario of the Minneapolis Adrians, running for Lucktenberg moved to third. He then scored on New Hope's Ben Suapaia's single and the Metro took a 4-3 advantage.

The lead proved to be short-lived as Scott McNally of the Bloomington Eagles reached on an error. Montgomery's Craig Schuster singled him to third and Montgomery's Dan Deutsch drove him home to knot the game at 4-4. after 10 innings.

In the bottom of the 11th, Webster's Rob Krostue drew a walk, stole second and was singled home by pinch hitter Dave "The Greek" Wagner of the Belle Plaine Grey Tigers giving the RV nine a 5-4 lead. Fielding misplays led to another run for River Valley giving them a 6-4 lead, the ultimate margin of victory.

Waconia's Collin Bender came in to pitch the 12th for the RV team and promptly "shut the door" by recording 2 quick strike-outs.
